Recommendations for Dentists’ Posture, a better way to sit on your stool
This is part of a lecture I did for the Colorado New Dentist Committee. I had a great time speaking to this talented group of dentists. In this video clip I talk about some of the easy things a dentist can do to help their posture. Posture can be extremely important when it comes to low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, you name it! I tell my patients that posture would not be so important if you sat for five minutes a day, but when we start having people that sit for 5, 6, 7, 10+ hours a day a small variation in the way you sit can make a world of difference. We then get up from sitting at work and drive home, and a decent amount of time may be spent sitting at home as well. So in this part of the lecture I discuss a way to sit that will cause your pelvic floor, which is part of your “core,” to engage. This is one simple way to decrease the stress put on your body.
